However this is noted on our website and confirmation emails as I try to be as transparent as possible so no one is surprised about us not having a bar when they book and if they choose to stay they are doing so with the understanding that there is currently no bar service. We have been ready to go for repairs since about a week after the fire, but it has been a back and forth with the city and the Historical Architecture Review Committee non-stop. The fire was last year and yes, unfortunately we are still waiting for the City of Key West to grant us the repair permits. ![]() Sorry to see you go Tropical Traveler but we understand. Do yourself a favor and experience the luxury of this resort and the excellent care from superb staff. Again for me the Equator is it in every way and I will be back in October. They have a great Happy Hour and bottled water and iced tea and snacks all day long by the pool. And again kudos to them for it does not hinder anything. And they want things done as quickly as the guests do and are fully ready when given the go ahead! I get a little frustrated for the Equator has been open about the bar situation since day one with constant updates on their website and even on the page before you click yes for that reservation. The Equator is made of all historic homes (which means even more kudos to them for how lovely all the rooms are) but this adds to the different city boards they need to go through before repairs can be done. I want to add about the bar since so many people comment. I always am above impressed how at home they make feel. The care they give the guests is unseen these days. What exceeds even all this is the customer service. The rooms on the third floor with balconies are true heaven overlooking the grounds and having only the blue sky and swaying palm trees above you. I have stayed in so many different rooms and all are great but this trip found the perfect one for me. Everything there is kept impeccable and changes are always being made. I always go when weather is warm and the pools are great day and night. The tropical setting is beyond description and the 2 pools and 2 hots tubs excellent. I have always loved Key West but at the Equator after some days out and about I don't want to leave the resort. ![]() There is no other place like it and I have been here now 10 times just since 2019. Needless to say, we will not return - and we'd advise others against booking at the Equator as well.… There are so many other options in the same Fleming Street neighborhood - you should strongly consider those (or any others!) in KW before booking at the Equator. Before you book at the Equator, take a tour of the property in-person if you can. We didn't want conversation mind you - just some affirmation of a 'hello', 'good morning', or 'have a nice done.' To be sure - the staff came across as tired and lacking as the physical space itself - an imperfect marriage of the two. Even those assigned to the front desk would watch us enter and leave without a simple greeting or acknowledgement. Save one daytime staff person, most of the staff avoided making any eye contact, scurried around, and said little to nothing at all to the guests. Unfortunately - neither of these materialized during our visit to the Equator either. With a fun atmosphere and welcoming staff, one might be able to look past the property's shortcomings. Parts of the pool deck and exterior staircases were either broken or had small ferns and other plants growing from boards that needed repair years ago. Weather-beaten and faded, the posters drew one's attention to the property's shortcomings rather than it's luxury. For example, there were large posters of nude and semi-nude men posted outside around the pools and hot tubs. Much of the property looked a bit tired and dated. The pools - at least - lived up to the photos. Given the low season and heat - we looked at the Equator online before making our reservations and selected the resort based on how the property looked from its pictures. We have traveled to Key West many times and have stayed at various men's resorts, AirBNB's, and private homes.
